Cobalt (Atomic Number 27) is a hard, silver-gray metal with strong magnetic properties. The majority of produced cobalt is used in alloys, which are valued for their high-temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, and wear resistance. As a result, cobalt alloys find applications across a wide range of industries, including gas turbine blades, aircraft engines, and surgical instruments, with particularly broad use in the medical field. Some specialized cobalt alloys are used in joint replacements or prosthetics for individuals with nickel allergies. Beyond these applications, cobalt is also utilized in high-speed drills, cutting tools, permanent magnets, and jewelry. More recently, it has gained attention as a key material in electric vehicle batteries.
